Bruno Rodríguez

Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla (Mexico City, January 22, 1958) is a prominent Cuban diplomat and politician who has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba since 2009. He is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, establishing himself as one of the most influential figures in Cuban foreign policy. A graduate in Law from the University of Havana, Rodríguez Parrilla began his diplomatic career in the 1980s. Between 1995 and 2003, he served as Cuba's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, where he gained recognition for his diplomatic skill and defense of Cuban sovereignty. He was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on March 2, 2009, replacing Felipe Pérez Roque, after having served as Vice Minister. On July 20, 2015, Rodríguez attended the reopening of Cuba's Embassy in Washington D.C., becoming the first Cuban Foreign Minister to visit the United States on a diplomatic mission since 1958. As Minister, he has led Cuba's foreign relations during critical periods, including the diplomatic thaw with the United States under the Obama administration, and subsequently the escalation of tensions during the Trump administrations. His tenure has been characterized by firm defense of the principles of the Cuban Revolution and opposition to the U.S. economic embargo. In January 2026, in response to an executive order by President Trump, Rodríguez declared an "international emergency," warning about the threats posed by U.S. policy toward Cuba to international peace and security.
