Right-handed pitcher who played in the Major Leagues, he was the eldest son of René Monteagudo, another Cuban baseball player in the Major Leagues.

He was born in Caibarién, Villaclara. He emigrated to Venezuela shortly after the triumph of the Revolution in Cuba.

At 19 years old, Monteagudo made his debut with the Kansas City Athletics on September 1st, 1963. After three seasons with Kansas City, he moved to the Houston Astros on May 17th, 1966. At the end of the season, he received Venezuelan residency. Then, Monteagudo joined the Chicago White Sox on July 16th, 1967 with his new nationality. After one season in Chicago, he played with the Kansas City Royals (1970) and California Angels (1973).

In seven seasons, he had a record of 3-7 with 58 strikeouts, an average of 5.05, four saves, and 132 innings pitched in 72 games (65 as a relief pitcher). He played his last Major League game on September 28th, 1973.

Monteagudo also played 20 seasons in Venezuela's professional baseball league with five different teams: Caracas, Magallanes, La Guaira, and Portuguesa, compiling a record of 7-81 with 897 strikeouts and an average of 3.37. On December 20th, 1973, Monteagudo kept the Lara Cardinals hitless for 8 and 2/3 innings until Faustino Zabala ruined the no-hitter with a hit to center field.

At the same time, Monteagudo played in the Mexican League with Puebla, Coahuila, Aguascalientes, and Veracruz. He pitched a no-hitter against Nuevo Laredo on March 19th, 1979 and led the league in strikeouts once (222, in 1978). After his retirement in 1981, he became a manager in this league.

Aurelio Monteagudo died in a car accident in Mexico nine days after turning 47 years old.
