Born in Matanzas. Known as Papaíto.

He introduced, in the early twentieth century, the piano to the French-style Charanga in Havana.

One of the first and most notable cultivators of the danzón in the capital's musical circles. He composed some danzones, waltzes and dances. He was director of a popular Charanga that played in Havana's salons from the dawn of the present century.
