Andrés D. Abreu

He studied Dramaturgy and screenwriting for Film and Television. He obtained the Diploma in Production and Perception of Audiovisual Media from the Faculty of Audiovisual Media at the Instituto Superior de Arte. La Habana. Cuba, 1999-2000.

He participated in the Literary Training Workshop "Onelio Jorge Cardoso" sponsored by UNEAC. He received a Diploma in Journalism from the Faculty of Journalism at the Universidad de La Habana, Cuba, 2001. In the year 2000, he began publishing his articles in the cultural section of the newspaper Juventud Rebelde. In June of that same year he was called to collaborate with the cultural section of the newspaper Granma on topics related to performing arts and visual arts, becoming in February 2001 a member of the journalism team of this section until April 2005.

He currently continues collaborating with the newspaper Granma and with other publications such as the Tabloide Noticias de Arte Cubano, the magazines Arte Cubano and Revolución y Cultura and the section La Mirada of the publication La Jiribilla. He has also collaborated with the magazines Cuba en el Ballet and Tablas.

He directed the short film EMERGENTES, Ojo Rojo productions, 1999. He has been the director of the promotional videos Serenidad 2000 and A golpe de color, OJO ROJO productions, 1999.

He served as director and co-screenwriter of the short film La Llamada, OJO ROJO productions, 2001. This was selected to participate in the First Poor Film Festival of Gíbara. He participated in the First Meeting of Visual Poetry organized by the Centro Cultural de España with the video art Sobre la isla, OJO ROJO productions, 2001.

He received the Award for Best Direction of Video-Fiction at the Imago Festival, Cuba, 1999 and Mention at the National Festival of the Video Movement, Cuba, 2000 for the short film EMERGENTES. He won Mention in the National Contest of Erotic Narrative Farraluque 2000 with the story "La noche comenzó a las..." published in La Jiribilla.
