===BODY===
Example of a young revolutionary woman who gave her life for the triumph and consolidation of the Cuban Revolution.
She was born in Yateras, in the territory of the former eastern province. The feeling of rebellion was instilled in her from childhood, since her mother was an active member of the Communist Party of Cuba, from whose ranks she fought against the Machado dictatorship. Her father was a tobacco worker and when the family moved to Santiago de Cuba, he joined the Cigar Makers' Guild. Both descended from families of mambises.
From her adolescence, América Labadí had to contribute to the support of her humble home, through sewing work.
Around her, repudiation of the Machado regime erupted, and the young woman resolutely joined the struggle.
She was a member of the Communist Youth League (LJC) at only 16 years old and carried out countless propaganda and agitation activities in a cell of the International Workers' Defense (DOI).
In April 1933 she was imprisoned in the wave of repression that broke out following the takeover of the town of Guiteras and the San Luis barracks. On another occasion, for having participated in a "hunger march" that took place in Santiago de Cuba, she suffered blows from the Machado police.
On August 1, 1933, the Party decided to hold a demonstration on the occasion of the International Day of the Struggle Against War and for Peace, around which América carried out outstanding propaganda work.
At the demonstration, América carried our national flag, and embraced by it she fell struck down by bullets coming from the house of a notorious regime informant. She was only 16 years old when she died.
