Alberto Palanca

Born in Rancho Boyeros, Havana. He began his artistic career in 1956. He joined the chorus in Luisa Fernanda directed by Miguel De Grandy, in the farewell performance of Zoraida Barrero (teatro Martín, 1960).

He performed the incidental music for The Caucasian Chalk Circle, by Brecht, in the Teatro Estudio production (1961) and premiered the opera Los días llenos, by Galán (1962). Founding member of the Teatro Lírico Nacional de Cuba, where he was part of the casts in most of its productions: Luisa Fernanda (Saboyano/Javier, 1963); El matrimonio secreto (Paolino, 1965); María la O (Niño Fernando, 1964); La traviata (Gaston, 1964); Los gavilanes (Gustavo, 1965); La princesa de las czardas (Eugenio de Ronsdorff, 1965); Don Pasquale (Ernesto, 1967); La viuda alegre (Rosillón, 1967); Cecilia Valdés (Leonardo, 1969); Marina (Jorge, 1969); El barbero de Sevilla (Almaviva, 1971); Lucia di Lammermoor (Arturo, 1981); Los payasos (Beppe, 1982); La traviata (Alfredo, 1984); Rigoletto (Duke of Mantua, 1988); Faust (r. t., 1988).

With the Grupo Jorge Anckermann, he premiered the lead role in the zarzuela Gloria la de Atarés o El amor nació en la plaza, by Valcárcel (1965).

He died in Havana.
