Died: December 3, 1931
He was the eldest of ten siblings and very soon had to face life since his father died in 1922. He took singing lessons in La Habana and later with a Chilean teacher in Nueva York.
From December 1926 to November 1931, less than five years, he recorded 126 records for Columbia, not counting some other recordings with different artists.
Among them is the historic recording of Aquellos ojos verdes, a song for which he wrote the lyrics, with music by Nilo Menéndez. Adolfo was a poet—and dedicated to the eyes of his younger sister Conchita, who was spending the season at that time in Nueva York with him.
For unknown reasons, he took his own life, cutting short a promising career. Conchita, his sister, recorded some songs as a performer (1929-30) although she dedicated herself mostly to poetry. His cousin Antonio Utrera was also a singer and recorded from 1925 to 1929.
