The runner-up finish achieved by Cuban Biagna Xiomara Rodríguez at the Latin American Women's Junior Motocross Championship, held in the city of Ibagué, Colombia, became the best news for that sport on the island in the last three decades.

The result qualifies as a pleasant surprise, but takes on greater significance due to the fact that the young woman, only 17 years old, achieved it in her first international experience, as reported by the sports portal Jit.

In Colombia, the Latin American Women's Motocross Championship WMX and the Latin American Motocross Junior Championship 85cc and 125cc took place.

At the Colombian competition, Biagna had to overcome some setbacks such as the technical problems suffered by the Yamaha motorcycle provided at the venue for her to compete, which forced her to quickly adapt to another one, with which she achieved the important result.

Roberto Carbonell, president of the Cuban Motorcycle Federation, considered that performance a milestone, and highlighted the level reached by the vueltabajera rider, currently the only woman practicing that sport in Cuba.

Biagna's passion for this demanding discipline was born in a family environment. Her father Alexei and grandfather Félix previously had outstanding results in various national competitions.

When an uncle gave her a motorcycle, she began her first attempts, and her evolution marked the first successes in minor categories until she was crowned champion in the National Motocross Championship, held in August of this year in Sancti Spíritus.

For her trainer, Eugenio Cabrera, what was achieved at the Ibagué event was a surprise. The objective of her participation was to "gain experience," but she exceeded all expectations.

"She overcame that setback as she always does. They gave her another motorcycle for qualifying and she finished in fifth position among 12 competitors. In the next day she started very well, achieved the historic result and made a very good impression on the championship organizers," he noted, as cited by the media.
