Bárbara Llanes will be accompanied by Karla Martínez on piano and by Lester Chio on clarinet, a format called Trío Nueva Habana and constitutes a new project belonging to the Concert Music Center of Cuba's Ministry of Culture.
Cuban soprano Bárbara Llanes is preparing to perform a concert scheduled as part of the celebration in France of Latin America and the Caribbean Week 2019.
"I am very excited about the idea of doing this concert," she told Prensa Latina about the presentation at the Arts Center of Enghien-les-Bains, a town located north of Paris.
Llanes will be accompanied by Karla Martínez on piano and by Lester Chio on clarinet, a format called Trío Nueva Habana and constitutes a new project belonging to the Concert Music Center of Cuba's Ministry of Culture.
In the conversation with Prensa Latina, the soprano showed her enthusiasm about performing with the support of "two very young and very talented musicians."
She explained that the repertoire includes works composed by herself because "I want to share this part of my life that is creation," as well as "pieces that touch me deeply from contemporary Cuban songwriting, such as the music of Gisela Hernández."
Although the repertoire is mainly Cuban, it also includes an international classic, The Shepherd on the Rock, by Schubert, "a fabulous piece, of exquisite craftsmanship and very virtuosic for the clarinet and the voice," she explained.
Although the stage in Enghien-les-Bains is not unfamiliar to Llanes, where she has already performed on several occasions, this time it will have a singular character since the show has a design, instrumentation, and conception that are very different, she noted.
She added that since it is a concert included in an international event, "now it will be a more open presentation, people and artists from several countries will come, that makes a difference and I have the expectation of having a diverse audience."
The concert, produced by Carmen Mayans, is sponsored by the Arts Center and by the Cuban embassy in France.
The eve began the sixth edition of Latin America and the Caribbean Week in France, coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aimed at strengthening ties in that region and this European nation.
