The prima ballerina and general director of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Viengsay Valdés, will be part of the jury of the Lausanne Prize, in Switzerland, the prestigious company reported today.
The renowned international ballet competition will take place from February 2 to 9 this year, with a panel presided over by Laurent Hilaire, director of the Ballet Estatal de Baviera, the statement noted.
The vice president is Paola Cantalupo, artistic and pedagogical director of the Escuela Nacional Superior de Danza Roselle Hightower, in France; and it is also made up of renowned figures in dance such as Leanne Benjamin, Skylar Cambell, Frédéric Olivieri, Laeticia Pujol, Wim Vanlenssen and Joy Womack.
Regarding the Lausanne ballet competition, choreographer John Neumeier stated that the competition offers an exceptionally balanced mix of artistic ideals and practical assistance in the development of young dancers' careers, through the many scholarships that are awarded every year.
"However, what makes the Prix de Lausanne a unique experience is, above all, its dedication to the potential of current virtuosity," he noted.
According to the renowned creator, this prize has the responsibility to support individual talent and encourage young dancers to analyze and reflect on aspects of the human condition, pointing to the noblest aspirations and possibilities of humanity in their work.
