Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta will celebrate his 50th birthday at the Royal Opera House in London (ROH), one of the most prestigious stages in the world.
He will commemorate reaching his half-century milestone by dancing during the 2023 Summer Season at the ROH and showcasing his talent, according to what was revealed on the dancer's social media accounts, who promised to share more details soon.
Additionally, the company founded by the prestigious Cuban, Acosta Danza, will present the show Spectrum at the end of January, featuring the works "Portal" by Juanjo Arques; "Fauno" by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui; "Performance" by Micaela Taylor; "Nosotros" by Beatriz Garcia and Raul Reinoso; and "Alrededor No Hay Nada," choreography by Goyo Montero, according to the ROH's schedule.
"The acclaimed dance company of Carlos Acosta returns with an eclectic program of five new and existing works," writes the website, where it is announced that all tickets are already sold out for the company's performances at the Linbury stage.
The works in the show were described as a showcase of Acosta Danza's virtuosity and its mastery of a wide range of dance styles, encompassing classical, contemporary, and Cuban influences.
"Witness up close the talent of this extraordinary dance company in the intimate setting of the Linbury Theatre. Other works featured include Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui's ode to Sergei Diaghilev and a new commission from innovative choreographer Micaela Taylor," promoted the theater.
This week, furthermore, Acosta Danza will delight the Cuban public with its Raíces season at the Martí Theater, in the Cuban capital, where it will offer a varied program with choreographies that represent the historical evolution of this company.
Carlos Acosta serves as director of the famous English company Royal Ballet of Birmingham, which appointed Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta starting in January 2020, a position he holds while also directing Acosta Danza.
Acosta, who is now turning fifty, studied at the National School of Ballet of Cuba. He has danced with major companies such as English National Ballet, National Ballet of Cuba, Houston Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre.
