Nominated in the Best Traditional Tropical Album category at the 20th edition of the Latin Grammy 2019, presented by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (LARAS), the cd Aymée Nuviola: A Journey Through Cuban Music, from the Top Stop Music label, is according to its performer, Cuban singer, composer, pianist and actress Aymée Nuviola, "a tribute to songs, singers and great composers of the Caribbean island".
The artist announced that this will be the first of a series of three albums she is preparing on Cuban music, in which she compiles emblematic works of our musical identity. Here appear the songs Chan Chan; Consuélate como yo; Dale tumba; Donde estabas anoche; Tres palabras; El Bodeguero and Pepe Cabecita; El Manisero; Ese Atrevimiento; La Caminadora; Lagrimas negras; Somos cubanos; Taxista and Yo soy el punto cubano, by authors such as Compay Segundo, Gonzalo Asencio, Ignacio Piñeiro, Osvaldo Farré, and Moisés Simons, among others.
To conceive this collector's album, Nuviola traveled to the island and recorded the works that make up her new album in situ. Furthermore, she brought together renowned musicians of international stature in Cuban music. Today this musical production is graced by artists such as Omara Portuondo, Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Alejandro Falcón, Pancho Amat, Mayito Rivera, Tiburón Morales, Samuel Formell and Alexander Abreu, together with the groups Septeto Santiaguero, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, Son del Guaso and La Conga de los Hoyos.
In Aymée Nuviola: A Journey Through Cuban Music, the performer traverses various sounds of Cuban music, including: the guajira, the rumba, the conga, the cha-cha-cha, the son, the guaracha, the changüí and the bolero, and makes masterful fusions such as the one she makes with the work Ese atrevimiento, by Ricardo Díaz Fresneda, which was performed for many years by Oscar Valdés and Irakere, in which—precisely—jazz musician Chucho Valdés, creator of the legendary group, and Los Muñequitos de Matanzas come together.
From all the work developed by the artist in the largest of the Antilles will come a documentary.
