DJ and music producer Mauro Menéndez, the eldest son of Cuban actress Aylín Mujica and Cuban musician Osamu Menéndez, died on July 17, 2026, in Barbados at the age of 30, according to reports from Telemundo and Infobae.
According to press reports, Menéndez had been battling pneumonia in the days before his death and reportedly suffered a heart attack. The official cause of death has not been publicly confirmed by the family.
His father, Osamu Menéndez, reacted to the news on social media: "Forgive me, I can't talk, my son Mauro died last night and I am devastated. I'm on the plane to find his body. I love you all always and I appreciate your messages of condolence."
Mauro Menéndez worked as a DJ and producer under the stage name MAAHEZ, specializing in house, tech house, latin house and moombahton, and had collaborated with artists such as Canadian duo DVBBS on tracks including "Tequila," "Isla de Mujeres" and "Safari."
Aylín Mujica, the well-known Cuban actress based in Mexico, was filming the show "Top Chef VIP" for Telemundo when she received news of her son's death. The network issued a statement confirming his death and expressing condolences to the family.
