May 18, 2019

Cuban musician Leo Brouwer arrived in Istanbul to participate in the VI International Guitar Festival, where he will teach a seminar and two master classes, according to the event organizers.

The event will begin on Monday, May 20, but on the eve Brouwer will hold a meeting with Cuban residents in Istanbul and friends of the island, organized by the José Martí Cuba Solidarity Association at the Nazim Hikmet Cultural Center.

Within the framework of the festival, the Cuban composer and guitarist will share the program with about twenty first-rate guitarists from the world music scene, among which stand out the flamenco composer Víctor Monge Serranito from Spain, Canadian master Rémi Boucher, and the multi-awarded Marcyn Dylla from Poland.

Brouwer, one of the most prominent and influential musicians of the twentieth century and one of the most prolific composers in the field of academic music, will convey to several groups of students part of his works and concepts, which characterize his imprint as a renovator in what refers to creation for the modern guitar.

Furthermore, the festival organizers will present the screening of 'The Perugia Cantata', about Brouwer's Concert No. 8 composed in 1999 for choir, guitar and orchestra, as a sample of the musical richness achieved by the Cuban master when approaching a symphonic work.
