The renowned artist Hilda Venero will receive today the 2023 National Circus Prize at the Trompoloco tent in this capital, as part of the special gala marking the 55th anniversary of said institution.
Venero received the award from the hands of Culture Minister Alpidio Grau, Manuel Morlote president of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, and directors of the National Council of Performing Arts during the anniversary performance of the National Circus of Cuba.
The recognized professional, whose stage name is Niurka, was a founder of this circus institution and the first Cuban woman who worked as a light acrobat on the seesaw.
She ventured into different specialties of circus genres and has received numerous national and international prizes throughout her 59-year career as an artist, teacher, and researcher.
The special performance, under the direction of Clary Fernández, in addition to featuring the show "Del circo soy" by the Cirkavana company, included dancers, acrobatics acts, aerial straps, seesaw, hair suspension, and roller skating, among others, according to organizers' announcement.
