Cuban taekwondo athlete Arlettys de la Caridad Acosta, from Sagua la Grande (Villa Clara), won gold in the under-73-kilogram division at the 2026 Brazil Open Taekwondo, a G2 tournament held at the Moringão gymnasium in Londrina, Paraná, according to the Cuban News Agency, JIT and Cadena Agramonte.
In the decisive bout, the Central American and Caribbean Games champion from Santo Domingo 2026 beat host athlete Maria Eduarda Souza 2-0. Bronze went to Brazil’s Livia Portigliotti. The meet, with about 1,500 athletes from more than 30 countries, awards 20 points toward World Taekwondo’s world and Olympic rankings.
The result adds ranking points as Cuba prepares for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. At the same event, Yoikel Goicochea took silver in the over-87-kilogram class, part of what ACN described as a solid continental outing for the national team.
