Arlenis Sierra displayed all her athletic prowess in Argentina. The Cuban cyclist triumphed this Sunday in the road race event of the Pan American Championship of the discipline, which has been held these days in the town of San Juan.
The Granma native, a heavy favorite to win the event, being number one on the continent, crossed the finish line triumphantly, passing on her bicycle alongside 16 other competitors and registering a time of 2:21:30 hours, after covering the marked 91.5 kilometers.
With this result, the Cuban woman won the Pan American Road Race for the third time and also secured her participation in the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador-2023. On this occasion, Arlenis was not alone representing Cuba, as she had the support of four riders, who did excellent collective work.
Aylena Quevedo (25th place), Claudia Baró (29th), Marlies Mejías (41st) and Yudelmis Domínguez (42nd) did everything within their reach so that Arlenis would arrive at the final kilometers with the necessary strength, and put on a strong finish against Chilean Catalina Soto and Uruguayan Fabiana Andrea, occupants of the second and third places respectively.
"The strategy planned by the technical staff worked very well, like never before. Thanks to Aylena, Claudia, Marlies and Yudelmis I was able to keep myself among the leaders throughout the entire competition. My success also belongs to them, for helping me with all their strength at different moments of the race," confessed Arlenis Sierra, who dedicated the victory to the memory of the 46 people who died in the explosion that occurred at the Havana hotel Saratoga on May 6th.
