It all turned out to be a scare, although Cuban cyclist Arlenis Sierra says they were «very difficult moments» when last Thursday, March 11, she was involved in a traffic accident while training on the outskirts of the city of Treviso, Italy.
«I was training on a circuit that I have traveled many times before. I was going down a hill when a car, which was coming from behind, made a normal pass on the left and, right then, swerved to the right and braked abruptly. There was no time for anything, because I was traveling at about 47 kilometers per hour on the bicycle, and I couldn't brake or make another maneuver to avoid hitting the vehicle».
The young Cuban commented to Granma that she is now physically almost at 100%, after spending a few hours in a local hospital and following the rest recommended by doctors.
«This week I have been training normally, because I am going to compete this Sunday in the Trofeo Alfredo Brinda, which is part of the world cup road circuit», she noted.
«My participation in the other events is not in danger. I only have a little pain in my right arm, but I hope it will disappear completely in the coming hours. The doctors at the a.r. Monex Women's Pro Cycling Team are working on the area that hurts me, which is the scapula area, on my right shoulder».
The native of the municipality of Manzanillo conveyed a message of reassurance to her followers, and affirmed that she will continue competing with the same intensity in each race, as she has always done.
