The current health status of former baseball player Ariel Pestano was reported on Friday, June 15 as "stable," with the required medical treatment and awaiting microbiological tests that will confirm or rule out possible leptospirosis, which is why he is admitted to the intensive care unit of Arnaldo Milián Castro Provincial Hospital in Santa Clara.
The catcher for the orange team and team Cuba, recently retired, began to feel the symptoms of the illness last Saturday, and "from now on, between seven and nine at night, he already had a fever over 40 degrees." Pestano reports that the cause of the mishap must have been the handling of some car parts in his garage "while doing a repair. It seems that a rat had urinated there," he expressed to Cibercuba.
The illness progressed rapidly and attacked his lungs, kidneys and liver, and there was even talk of the possibility of putting him on hemodialysis. "Fortunately, I'm already improving," asserts the Olympic champion and World Classic runner-up. "They even removed the tube from me. Now I have to recover the lost levels. I'm telling you that I almost left the park. The only thing you need to get through this is to be alive. It looked very bad for me, but simply my time hadn't come yet."
According to statements from the medical team treating him, Ariel Pestano is improving and responding positively, but the doctors still prefer to wait for time to pass to evaluate his possible recovery more accurately.
The Pestano family took the opportunity to express their gratitude to all the fans in the country and in the province who have been interested in the health situation that the outstanding former baseball player from Villa Clara is going through these days.
Finally, Ariel Pestano and his family sent their recognition to all the doctors and paramedical staff of Arnaldo Milián Castro hospital who have treated his case, as well as the colleagues in the management of INDER, the Party and the Government of the territory, who are very aware of his situation.
