Dr. Araceli García Carranza Bassetti was conferred the "Carlos Juan Finlay" Order, awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, in just recognition of her fruitful trajectory in the field of scientific and cultural research, and especially in bibliographic research. So much so that she has been considered by international experts as one of the best bibliographers in Ibero-America.
Araceli holds a doctorate in Philosophy and Letters from the University of La Habana, is an associate senior professor at our highest center of higher education, member of the Scientific Categories Tribunal of the Ministry of Culture, head of Research at the National Library of Cuba "José Martí," true cathedral of Cuban and universal culture, and editor-in-chief of the Journal of the National Library of Cuba José Martí, its emblematic press medium.
Dr. García-Carranza is a full member of the Cuban Association of Librarians (ASCUBI), and an illustrious member of the sixty-year-old Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), among other national and foreign organizations.
She has been the bibliographer of legendary figures of national and international culture, as well as of local publications of the Nineteenth Century island: the Revista Bimestre Cubana and La Gaceta de Cuba.
Moreover, the distinguished intellectual from Havana has published several books and journalistic articles in Cuban and foreign journals, which constitute basic contributions to the development of Caribbean and Ibero-American culture.
The valuable contributions of the eminent bibliographer and researcher serve as a source of consultation and guidance in the work of researchers, teachers and students, who—at all times—have found in her support, encouragement and specialized assistance.
She has said: "It is a recognition that I never dreamed of […]. It has been totally unexpected […]. I feel very proud to have had the immense privilege of receiving the Carlos Juan Finlay Order; a laurel that obliges me—much more—to deliver the best of intellect and spirit in favor of Cuban science and culture.
