Vivian Mas and Lourdes Rizo were awarded the Life and Work Prize of the Society of Architecture, from the Union of Architects and Construction Engineers of Cuba (Unaicc), announced Ramón Recondo Pérez, national president of that entity, at a press conference held at the organization's headquarters.
The award is granted to the Doctors in Architecture, full professors at prestigious study centers, for their outstanding work in heritage conservation and urban design.
Recondo Pérez noted that the award recipients previously received other recognitions and the distinction of High-Level Professional, also linked to restoration projects of historic, cultural and industrial sites and professors at the University Colegio de San Gerónimo and the University of Oriente.
He reported that the presentation of these decorations will take place at the National Act for Architect's Day, to be held on March 13 at the Centro Fidel Castro, an entity accredited with the Gold Medal for Constructive Excellence, awarded by the National Board of Directors of Unaicc, for its quality of conception, design and aesthetics.
Vivian Mas, one of the award recipients, expressed to ACN that it is an honor to receive this tribute and her desire to do more in favor of heritage conservation in cities, since architecture represents the face of the nation.
For every professional in the field, this is the highest recognition, necessary to further dignify the work of architects and their importance in society, although one does not work for accolades but for the love of constructive beauty, she emphasized.
Since 1996, Unaicc has awarded the Life and Work Prize in Architecture and to date, 67 specialists have received this high honor.
