The nonagenarian and eternal sweetheart of filin, the quintessentially Cuban Omara Portuondo, will perform in March in Mexico City as part of her worldwide tour Vida, announced La Jornada.

The newspaper recalls that the legend of Cuban music began her current tour last year, in which she takes a journey through her prolific musical career spanning more than seven decades.

It reveals that the diva of Buena Vista Social Club envisions various projects such as the premiere of a musical on Broadway in 2024, while they prepare a biographical film and book, evidence that at 92 years old, Omara maintains "the energy and vitality" that she will project in this city on March 11, at the Teatro Esperanza Iris.

There, adds La Jornada, she will lead an evening that encompasses the songs that she has made most popular; it is a selection that includes a bolero cycle with pieces by César Portillo and José Antonio Méndez among other composers, explained Ariel Jiménez Portuondo, the artist's son and manager.

Jiménez Portuondo, via telephone from Cuba, clarified to La Jornada that "the Vida tour is the result of an idea that came up last year during the pandemic; with my mother we began dates in various parts of the world. It's not that she is retiring; it's her farewell from some countries that are quite far away, which, due to her age, she will no longer be able to" visit.

The newspaper points out that there is the possibility of opening another date at the venue on Donceles in the Historic Center of the capital, and arranging concerts in other entities of the Republic.

Mexico for Omara is her second country, because of the great bond she has had since the 1940s onwards, her son emphasized.

After she concludes in this nation, Jiménez specified, they will resume concerts in Europe, the United States and are scheduling countries in Asia.
