Cuban Andrea Doimeadiós won the award for Best Actress at the Fine Arts Film Festival Made in RD, for her role in the film La Cigüeña, which was extensively applauded at the event.

Doimeadiós plays Leila in the film, who after her mother's death agrees to be a surrogate mother for a couple of doctors formed by Inés and Daniel. However, according to the synopsis, under the watch of their employee, Leila's pregnancy becomes "a prison filled with secrets and extremism".

As reported by the newspaper Acento, in La Cigüeña one observes "the courage of a woman who gives up her baby to hand it over to a family that longs to become parents".

Described by the newspaper as "unforgettable" and "memorable", Andrea returns "in grand style" to Dominican cinema, "with a character that makes you hate her, despise her and wish she would die in the first scenes without knowing that her drive is for something more".

Posthumously, the award for Best Actor went to another Cuban, the experienced Alexis Díaz de Villegas, for Insular.

The event, which closed last night its fourth edition with the awards ceremony in the different categories, took place simultaneously between Santo Domingo and Santiago with the screening of films, documentaries and panel discussions. The film Boca Chica was the big winner of the gathering.
