On a day like today, Ana Celia de Armas Caso (Havana, April 30, 1988) is born, better known as Ana de Arma, a Cuban actress who began her career at 16 years old with a leading role alongside Álex González in the romantic drama by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Una rosa de Francia (2005) filmed between Cuba and Spain; a year later under the direction of Fernando Pérez, she played Stella in Madrigal, alongside the also acclaimed Cuban actor Luis Alberto García.

At 18 years old, after obtaining Spanish citizenship through her maternal grandparents, she moved to Madrid where she starred in series such as the popular suspense show "El internado" (2007-2010) playing the role of Carolina Leal Solís and as Nerea in the historical drama "Hispania, la leyenda" (2010-2012).

In 2009 she appeared in the film Mentiras y gordas and between 2012 and 2014, she participated in El callejón, Faraday, Por un puñado de besos and Anabel.

After several years without acting, in 2014, she moved to Los Angeles, where she had to start her career from scratch, in addition to learning English. Knock Knock (2015) with Keanu Reeves was her first Hollywood release, for which she had to learn her lines phonetically.

Among her other best-known films are Anabel, Exposed, Hands of Stone, War Dogs, Overdrive, No Time To Die, Blade Runner 2049.

For her performance as nurse Marta Cabrera in the mystery film "Knives Out" (2019), she was nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedy or musical. In 2022, the biographical film about the life of Marilyn Monroe, "Blonde," premiered, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination at the 80th edition of the awards, as best actress in a dramatic film, and her first nomination for the Academy Awards.

De Arma became the first Cuban actress to be nominated for an Academy Award for acting. Furthermore, the first Cuban person to be nominated in a main acting category.

This Sunday, Cuban actress Ana de Arma turns 35 years old and celebrates it in Havana, where she arrived a few days ago precisely to share this date with friends and family in her native Cuba.

The event would have nothing particularly remarkable about it if it were not for the fact that de Arma is already one of the most international Cuban artists in our entire history, which makes her decision to spend her vacation in her country stand out much more.

Many Cubans have noticed the gesture and have publicly pointed it out on social media, especially upon seeing the photos that have circulated since her arrival to the city, where she appears generous and humble.

A winner in Hollywood, a star in several television shows in the United States, chosen by important brands for their advertising, and cover girl of magazines, Ana de Arma has not stopped traveling to her country whenever she has been able to, since she decided to emigrate to give an international profile to her career, first from Madrid and then in Los Angeles.
