The renowned Canadian actor Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer, winner of the Oscar award and known for his role as Captain Von Trapp in the musical "The Sound of Music", died last Friday at the age of 91.
After learning of the unfortunate news, Cuban actress Ana de Armas —who shared the screen with the star in the thriller "Knives Out"— said goodbye to Plummer with some emotional words.
"My heart is broken, my dear Chris. I feel your loss deeply. How fortunate I was to have you by my side in what has been one of the best experiences of my career. Thank you always for your laughter, your warmth, your talent, your stories about Marilyn, the vitamins when I got sick, your patience, your partnership and your company. I will always think of you with love and admiration. Rest in peace", the actress noted in an Instagram post.
In the feature film, written and directed by Rian Johnson, Plummer played a wealthy crime novelist —Harlan Thrombey— who, on the eve of his 85th birthday, invites his family to his mansion in Massachusetts for his party. The next morning, the housekeeper, Fran, finds him dead, with his throat cut. Ana, for her part, played Marta Cabrera, the nurse and intimate friend of the author.
The death of the versatile Canadian actor was confirmed by his wife, Elaine Taylor.
"An extraordinary man who loved and deeply respected his profession with excellent old-fashioned manners, self-deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a national treasure who deeply enjoyed his Canadian roots", declared, for his part, Lou Pitt, who had been his friend and representative for more than five decades.
"He touched all our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will be with us forever", he concluded.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Plummer achieved his first starring role in theater with the role of Hal in Henry V during the Stratford festival. In 1958 he made his leap to the big screen thanks to the drama "Stage Truck", in which he played a writer in love with Susan Strasberg. However, one of his most important roles was that of Captain John Von Trapp in the 1965 classic "The Sound of Music", directed by Robert Wise.
