Cuban actress Ana de Arma will begin filming the movie "Ballerina" this week, a spin-off of the "John Wick" saga.
Since last year, rumors had been circulating that the Cuban actress would star in the new film, but it was not until this week that several specialized sites reported the beginning of the production stage of the film.
This was reported, among others, by the indiewire website and hobbyconsolas, the latter stating that "Ana de Arma is about to immerse herself in the world of intrigue behind the scenes of the `John Wick´ Universe. Born as an independent action film, `John Wick´ has become one of the most popular and prolific action sagas of the last decade".
For its part, the Collider website detailed that the Cuban actress will play a trained assassin who will seek revenge against those responsible for her family's death.
The title of the film arises precisely from the training received by De Arma's character, who acquired her fighting skills at a ballet school.
"Ballerina" will be directed by Len Wiseman and the screenplay is by Emerald Fennell and Shay Hatten.
Furthermore, Chad Stahelski, director of the main John Wick films, will assume the role of executive producer, according to some media, to ensure that the new film fits with the overall story of the well-known action saga.
It is estimated that "Ballerina" will arrive in theaters in late 2023 or early 2024, although further details on this subject have not yet been specified, especially since the production company has in the works the release of "John Wick 4" in March 2023 and "The Continental", a series about the famous hotel that provides accommodation and refuge to assassins.
The news has caused a stir among fans of both the "John Wick" saga and the 32-year-old Cuban, many of them still dazzled by her starring role in "Blonde".
