Ana de Armas became one of the protagonists this Saturday, April 15, on 'Saturday Night Live', where she was in charge of presenting the program and giving the opening monologue, first starting in Spanish: "Thank you, thank you. I've had an incredible year and I'm very happy to be here presenting tonight's show".
Later, now in native English, Ana de Armas wanted to tell how her arrival in the United States was without speaking English: "I speak English, but I didn't speak it when I arrived in the United States. I was born in Cuba". However, to the surprise of her millions of fans, the actress learned the language in a very particular way: "I came to the United States when I was 26 years old and I learned English the way everyone who comes to this country does: watching 'Friends'".
And indeed, the actress confessed that Matthew Perry, playing the famous Chandler Bing, ended up being her English tutor upon her arrival in the United States: "Who would have thought that the best English tutor would be Chandler Bing? I mean, look at me now; could I be better at English?", Ana said in a joking tone and prompting laughter from the spectators present on the set.
But that wasn't the end of it, as to exemplify how her arrival was, Ana de Armas wanted to tell an anecdote, that of an acting class "that was definitely a scam", and that took place during an audition process: "There was this line: 'I apologize to you'. But I had never seen or heard that phrase before, so I thought this character was literally begging".
"That was such a kind gesture, and I've been very fortunate to work with so many wonderful actors. My dad was proud of me and would be proud to see me standing on this stage today. I feel very fortunate to be here", the actress added.
De Armas reiterated in her monologue that it had been an incredible year, due to her Oscar nomination for her interpretation of Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, a performance which some precisely questioned her about her Latin accent.
She also mentioned that in three weeks she would officially become a U.S. citizen, something she feels proud of because when she decided to move to the U.S. she received the support of many people.
The charismatic and hardworking actress made reference to actor Robert de Niro, with whom she worked in the 2016 film, Hands of Stone.
One day, during filming, De Niro warned her that he would soon visit Cuba and therefore asked her for her family's contact information.
Shortly after, with the matter already forgotten, her father called her hysterically from the island to tell her that the actor had gone to see him at his own workplace.
The highly anticipated program with the most acclaimed and talented Latin divas of the moment, Ana de Armas and Karol G, had been announced for days.
The Cuban-born actress revealed her favorite Cuban dishes speaking Spanish during a sketch in the most recent episode of the American program Saturday Night Live.
Ana de Armas, who served as presenter of this new installment of the show where she performed in the Spanish Class sketch as the character of María, whose favorite food is ropa vieja, with tamales, with tostones, for dessert a frozen duro, and a mamey shake.
She also confessed that she "loves" mamoncillos.
The sketch is a close experience for a bilingual student who only needs one foreign language credit to graduate.
