The Theater of the National Museum of Fine Arts in the capital receives today Cuban pianist and composer Aldo López-Gavilán with his offer of a unique concert alongside recognized musicians from the island.
Among the musicians who will accompany the recital, scheduled for 21:00 local time, are bassist Gastón Joya, percussionist Yissi Garcia, Alejandro Calzadilla on clarinet and violinist Ramses Puente.
Over the past few years, the pianist has given nearly a hundred performances in the United States, alongside some of the country's leading orchestras, in addition to participating in prestigious events such as the Aux Jacobins Piano Festival in Toulouse, France.
In early 2019 he recorded the album Brothers in New York, alongside his brother violinist Ilmar López-Gavilán, which features arrangements for piano and violin of some of his most popular compositions such as Pájaro Carpintero, Viernes de Ciudad and Árboles en el Aire.
The album also includes the piece Hermanos, composed especially for the documentary of the same name, which the production company Patchworks Films from San Francisco made about the life and artistic trajectory of the two Cuban musicians.
With significant work as a pianist, concert performer and composer, he studied in Cuba at the Manuel Saumell and Amadeo Roldán conservatories, while he completed his training at the Academy of Music in London, United Kingdom.
He has established himself as a prominent exponent of classical music and jazz, in the Caribbean nation and on international stages with a dozen recognitions, among which stand out the Cubadisco awards 2000 and 2014 for the albums En el ocaso de la hormiga y el elefante and De todos los colores y también verde.
