Cuban actor Alberto Guerra joins Residente’s Porto Rico film with Bad Bunny

Cuban actor Alberto Guerra is part of the cast of Porto Rico, the historical drama with which Puerto Rican artist René Pérez Joglar, known as Residente, makes his fiction directing debut, according to CubaActores and The Hollywood Reporter. The production, already shooting in the Dominican Republic and starring Bad Bunny, also includes Cuban performers Pedro Antonio Martínez and Arian Cartaya.

Guerra, born in Havana in 1982, has built a career across Mexico, the United States and other international productions, with credits including El Señor de los Cielos, Ingobernable, Narcos: México and Netflix’s Griselda, in which he played Darío Sepúlveda opposite Sofía Vergara. Characters for many of the new cast members have not yet been revealed.

Described as a Caribbean western inspired by real events, the film follows late-19th-century Puerto Rico and the figure of José Maldonado Román, known as Águila Blanca. Residente co-wrote the screenplay with Oscar winner Alexander Dinelaris; Alejandro González Iñárritu is among the executive producers. No official release date has been announced.
