Young Adriana Cantillo achieved a historic performance at the Pan American Speed Skating Championship being held in Ibague, Colombia, where she won the bronze medal in the one hundred meter circuit route.
The Cuban woman reached the podium behind two Colombian skaters with world champion rankings among seniors and juniors, Geiny Pájaro and Sheila Muñoz, and since the semifinals had eliminated standouts from Chile, Argentina, Mexico and Ecuador, according to the Jit portal.
This performance by Cantillo began in the qualifying phase, in which she clocked 11,100 seconds, a new record for the Island. The previous one was held by Haila Brunet.
In the semifinals she went even further, as she stopped the clocks at 11,023, and in the final of three she achieved a top time (10,977), as specialized press commented.
To add more merit, Cantillo's medal returns Cuba to the podium in the women's sector, after 27 years of waiting, as something similar occurred in 1993 at the skating rink of the Raúl Díaz Argüelles Complex, when our country hosted this event.
