The popular Cuban actress Beatriz Valdés was hospitalized last Friday in Miami due to Covid-19.
The actress herself made this known, who through a video shared on her Instagram profile explained that she had already undergone a chest X-ray and that fortunately the results had been encouraging, since she did not show lesions compatible with pneumonia.
"I'm not seriously ill, just a bit weak and sad…It's inevitable to be scared…but that will only be today… I'm going to be fine. They are already taking care of me…I'll keep you updated", said Valdés.
"Day 10 of symptoms and 13 of possible contagion. Now at Westchester Hospital waiting. I have a cough and the doctors think I should have tests done. I'm not seriously ill, just a bit weak and sad…It's inevitable to be scared..but that will only be today… I'm going to be fine. They are already taking care of me…I'll keep you updated", the famous actress wrote in another post.
"What happened was that my air, my oxygen, dropped to 90. (…) we had to rush out, the doctor told me I had to come to the hospital to have all the tests done", she explained.
"Fortunately everything is fine (…) Finally I'm going to get better and I'm going home" to continue my recovery, she expressed on Instagram.
Encouraging comments from many followers were not long in coming, among which stand out people from Venezuela, where Beatriz lived for several years before settling in Miami. "Take heart my beautiful madam... You are a warrior", and "Everything will be fine. I'm with you. It's a tough stage that you had to go through, but you'll come out of it great you'll see", are some of the messages from her fans.
Beatriz Valdés is one of the Cuban actresses who has positioned herself as an icon of beauty and sensuality among people from the Caribbean.
Born in 1963 in La Habana and raised by her maternal family, Beatriz began her acting career at age 8 in a children's workshop. Little by little, she stood out in youth series and soap operas such as "Algo más que soñar" (1984) and "Tren de noviembre" (1989).
Her breakthrough to the big screen did not come until 1984 with the film directed by Rolando Díaz "Los pájaros tirándole a la escopeta" alongside the greats of the genre Reinaldo Miravalles, Consuelo Vidal and Alberto Pujol. This was followed by the films "Lejanía" by Jesús Díaz, "Como nosotros" and "Como la vida misma", a film by director Víctor Casaus inspired by the problems of a group of young people in a school in the countryside.
Also well remembered on the island for her participation in the television series Algo más que soñar.
However, her participation in "La bella del Alhambra" was her most acclaimed work on the island. The 1989 film is a film adaptation of the novel Canción de Rachel by Miguel Barnet and directed by Enrique Pineda Barnet, it tells the story of a chorus girl in the early twentieth century. A golden age of Cuban musical theater, in the midst of murky political events and dealings of the nascent Republic.
Her performance in this film where she also sings and dances, made her worthy of a Goya nomination.
In the late 1980s she traveled to Venezuela for the first time, as a guest at the first Inter-American Film Forum. Two years later, during a filming of Grisalla in Mérida, she met a young man and decided to settle permanently in the South American nation where she accumulated a large number of films and dramatizations.
Among them, the film by director Diego Rísquez "Manuela Sáenz: La Libertadora del Libertador", where she assumed the leading role.
Currently, she resides in Miami, Florida, but continues to participate sporadically in Cuban works. Among her most recent titles is the film "Perfecto amor equivocado" and the documentary by Carlos Barba commemorating the twentieth anniversary of the release of "La bella del Alhambra".
She has currently founded a studio in Hialeah to teach theater classes to children and thus reinvents her professional work with two passions: acting and children. She does not do it alone, she is accompanied by actress Yani Martínez, known on the island for her work on the program "Sopa de Palabras".
