# Yordan Álvarez homers twice for second straight night, ties AL home run lead with 20

**Date:** 05/29/2026

Cuban designated hitter Yordan Álvarez of the Houston Astros delivered back-to-back two-homer performances on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, powering Houston to a 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

Álvarez went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs and a walk. The highlight came in the eighth inning, when he launched a 448-foot missile to right-center field off a 3-0-count sweeper from Rangers reliever Tyler Alexander — his 20th home run of the season — to give the Astros a decisive 3-2 lead that held for the win.

The homer made Álvarez a co-leader in the American League with 20 home runs, tying White Sox rookie Munetaka Murakami. Across all of MLB, only Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber (21 HR) hit more.

Wednesday's effort was the direct follow-up to Tuesday, May 26, when Álvarez also hit two home runs against the same opponent — making him the fifth player in Astros history to homer in consecutive games, joining José Altuve (2023), Richard Hidalgo (2000), Moisés Alou (2000), and Doug Rader (1973). Over his last three games, Álvarez hit five home runs, going 6-for-12 with eight RBIs in the Texas series.

On the 2026 season, Álvarez is posting MVP-caliber numbers: a .312 batting average, 20 home runs, 39 RBIs, 36 runs scored, 11 doubles, and a 1.085 OPS across 56 games. His case for the American League Most Valuable Player Award grows stronger with every series.
