# Yordan Álvarez and Andy Pagés Make History as MLB Players of the Week

**Date:** 04/09/2026

A historic week for Cuban baseball. For the first time since 1974, two Cuban-born players were simultaneously named Players of the Week in Major League Baseball: Yordan Álvarez of the Houston Astros in the American League, and Andy Pagés of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League.

Álvarez had a dominant week at the plate, batting .471 with three home runs, two doubles and eight RBIs, while drawing seven walks. The Cuban slugger leads the Majors in on-base percentage (.578) and slugging percentage (.900), confirming his return to elite form after an injury-hampered 2025 season.

Pages was equally unstoppable in the National League. The young Dodgers outfielder hit .583 for the week, with two home runs, two doubles and seven RBIs. With a .471 batting average and 16 hits, he shares the MLB batting lead. The simultaneous recognition of both players marks a milestone in the history of Cuban baseball in the Majors.
