**Date:** 06/30/2026

Cuban infielder Yandy Díaz, the current American League batting leader with a .336 average, left the game in the second inning of the Tampa Bay Rays' 5-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, June 28, 2026, after experiencing pain in his left shoulder.

According to MLB.com, Díaz felt discomfort while batting during the second inning of the game played at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Rays removed him as a precaution and the Villa Clara native was listed as day-to-day. The team expected him to return to the lineup for the Tuesday series against the Kansas City Royals.

The Sagua la Grande native, born August 8, 1991, was having one of the best stretches of his tenth MLB season, batting .336 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs — numbers that placed him among the top candidates for the American League All-Star team.

The injury raised concern among Tampa Bay fans, though the day-to-day designation suggests it is not serious. Díaz is one of the most consistent contact hitters in Cuban baseball history in the major leagues, with a career batting average of .294.
