# Yandy Díaz strikes out on a disputed check swing as the Rays fall 0-2 in the World Series

Cuban designated hitter Yandy Díaz got Game 2 of the World Series off to a promising start on Saturday, October 24, reaching on a throwing error by shortstop Cooper Pratt and scoring the first run of a four-run first inning for the Tampa Bay Rays at American Family Field. Chandler Simpson drove him in, Junior Caminero added an RBI single, and catcher Liam Hicks crushed a 411-foot homer, the first of the Series.

The Milwaukee Brewers clawed back. Sal Frelick tied it with a sixth-inning home run, and rookie Pratt slapped the go-ahead single in the seventh for a 5-4 lead. Fellow Cuban Víctor Mesa Jr. ran down a deep fly ball to right in that inning after drawing a walk earlier in the game.

It ended in the ninth with two outs and the tying run on third. Díaz tried to hold up on a pitch from lefty Aaron Ashby; plate umpire Jim Wolf didn't ring him up, but on catcher William Contreras' appeal, first-base umpire James Hoye ruled he went around, ending the game. "In the moment, yeah, I disagreed. But the umpire said it was a swing and it is what it is," Díaz said afterward, according to USA Today. Speaking through an interpreter to MLB.com, he added: "It is frustrating. We didn't do our job and score more runs to help out our pitchers."

Milwaukee now leads the best-of-seven series 2-0 as it shifts to the Rays' home in St. Petersburg.
