# Sociedad Cultural "José Martí" will present Periódico Patria Award to Dr. Pedro Pablo Rodríguez

**Date:** 03/19/2021

The Cultural Society "José Martí" will present the Periódico Patria Award to Dr. Pedro Pablo Rodríguez López, leader of the research group for the Critical Edition of the Complete Works of José Martí at the Center for Martí Studies.

The award, one of the most prestigious presented by that institution, will be given on the occasion of March 14, marking the 129th anniversary of the publication of the first issue of the newspaper Patria, founded by José Martí as the organ of the Cuban Revolutionary Party.

Likewise, the Office of the Martí Program —and its system of Martí institutions— plan a series of actions to commemorate the date selected to celebrate Cuban Press Day, which include publications on the Portal of the Center for Martí Studies (CEM) about the relevance of that newspaper in the organization of the Necessary War, ideological political formation and the characteristics of Martí journalism, among other aspects.

The online space will also be essential to highlight the relevance of that media outlet for national history. In this regard different presentations will be shared on the topic from some of the most recognized researchers of Martí's life and work, through the various CEM social media accounts (Telegram and YouTube).

It is also worth noting that a restored collection of the Periódico Patria, which was published in New York and its last issue was number 522, dated December 31, 1898, is preserved in the Library of the Center for Martí Studies and its different issues are available on the CEM Portal where they can be consulted digitally.
