# Silvio Rodríguez and Chico Buarque Record Together in Havana, 34 Years Later

**Date:** 04/09/2026

Brazilian singer-songwriter Chico Buarque arrived in Havana on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 — 34 years after his last visit to the island — at the invitation of Cuban troubadour Silvio Rodríguez, one of the founders of the Nueva Trova Cubana movement. The purpose of the trip is the recording of a new version of Sueño con serpientes (Dream of Serpents), one of the most iconic songs in Rodríguez's catalog, which Buarque had previously performed in Portuguese.

The recording session took place at Studio Ojalá in Havana, featuring Niurka González on flute, Jorge Reyes on double bass, Malva Rodríguez on piano, Oliver Valdés on drums, and arrangements by Jorge Aragón. Buarque also donated essential medications to Cuba's Ministry of Public Health alongside his wife, lawyer Carol Proner.

According to Silvio Rodríguez's personal blog, Zurrón del Aprendiz, the new recording will be available on all digital platforms soon. The visit reinforces a friendship of more than five decades between two central figures of committed Latin American song, historically linked by shared aesthetic sensibilities and social commitment across the continent.
