As part of Cuban Press Day, which will take place from March 5 to 15, the National Journalism Prize José Martí (2022) for lifetime achievement was awarded to Roberto Pérez Betancourt, according to the Cubaperiodistas website.

The renowned reporter and columnist for the weekly Girón, the provincial station Radio 26, tv Yumurí and correspondent for the Cuban News Agency (ACN) has been a teacher to generations in Cuba and in countries such as Angola and Nicaragua.

Despite being retired for several years, he remains active and collaborates with several websites in the territory, and shares his experience as a Professor of Journalism at the University, wrote Bárbara Vasallo, head of the ACN Department in Matanzas, in her endorsement for the prize nomination.

"Journalism must be practiced from a commitment to your own ideology and values, based on feelings incorporated through humanistic formation," said Pérez Betancourt in an interview published in 2017.
