# Promising pitcher from Sancti Spiritus does not show up with his team for the National Baseball Series in Cuba

**Date:** 08/21/2020

Luis Dannys Morales, Cuba's top pitcher prospect, is in Mexican territory and intends to sign a contract with a Major League team.

When on August 19th the roster of the Gallos de Sancti Spíritus was officially announced for the upcoming National Series -to begin on September 12th next (if the coronavirus pandemic allows it)-, the absence of one name astonished everyone present at the press conference held in Yayabo territory: Luis Dannys Morales.

The young man, not yet 18 years old, had caused a sensation from the first day he set foot on a baseball field and in his journey through the so-called Cuban sports pyramid he had stolen all the newspaper headlines, to the point of being classified by specialists as the number one prospect in Cuban baseball.

Before the pandemic, this 17-year-old pitcher made news by striking out 18 batters in seven and two-thirds innings against the Las Tunas team in the National Youth Tournament on the Island.

Luis Dannys possesses a fastball of 95 miles per hour, in addition to a slider and curve above average.

The native of Sancti Spíritus started this tournament achieving four consecutive games of no hits and no runs. The measurements of his pitches have marked a maximum of 96 MPH and he maintains one of 90 MPH throughout the entire game.

In the statistics of the past Under-18 championship, the young pitcher established a record of 7-3 with an effectiveness of 0.87 and a WHIP of 0.76 in 82.2 innings pitched.

Native of the province of Sancti Spíritus, the tall right-handed pitcher has been the ace of his rotation in every tournament he has played and his numbers precede him in every park he visits. In 2018 when he was still playing in the Under-15 category he threw a no-hitter.

In the statistics of the 2020 Under-18 championship, the pitcher boasts a record of 7-2 with an effectiveness of 0.43 and a WHIP of 0.65 in 62.2 innings pitched. That is, they only scored THREE clean runs in the entire tournament.

If all those statistics of the young man from Spíritus seem to you from another level, imagine what you still have to read: that in that same amount of innings, 62 and two-thirds, he has given up only 12 walks and has struck out a total of 100 batters.
