# Pancho Céspedes to Receive the 2026 Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award

The Latin Recording Academy announced that Cuban singer-songwriter Pancho Céspedes will receive the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award, an honor bestowed on artists whose careers have made a lasting mark on music in Spanish and Portuguese.


The announcement, released this week by the US-based organization, is part of its 2026 Special Awards, which this year also honor Alaska, Lila Downs, Daniela Mercury and Chichí Peralta in the same category. The award ceremony will take place on November 9 in Las Vegas during Latin Grammy Week.


Born in Santa Clara in 1957, Céspedes left medical school to pursue music and moved to Mexico in 1992, where he wrote songs for Luis Miguel before launching his own solo career. His album "Vida loca" (1998) established him as one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary bolero, followed by works such as "¿Dónde está la vida?" and the Bola de Nieve tribute album "Con el permiso de Bola."


In its official statement, the Academy said Céspedes' music blends "the elegance of jazz with the warmth of bolero" and highlighted the generational reach of his songs. The organization's CEO, Manuel Abud, called this year's honorees "an exceptional group whose influence transcends generations and genres."
