# Veteran Singer Osdalgia Brings Her Voice to Mallorca for a Three-Night Run

Cuban singer Osdalgia is performing a three-date run on the Spanish island of Mallorca this week, bringing her decades-long career in Cuban popular music to venues in Colònia de Sant Jordi and Palmanova. The shows are scheduled for August 6 and 9 at La Bodeguita El Cubano and August 8 at Bolero Café.


Born Osdalge Lesmes Echevarría in the Havana neighborhood of Luyanó in 1970, the singer built her reputation in the 1990s performing with groups including Las Nuevas Mulatas de Fuego and the timba orchestra Las Chicas del Sabor before launching a solo career in 1997. Her 1999 debut album, "La Culebra," earned her the Cubadisco Grand Prize the following year and the nickname "The New Voice of Cuba" in the island's press.


Osdalgia's catalog spans guaracha, filin and Afro-Cuban jazz, and in 2005 she contributed to "Cuba canta a Serrat," a tribute album to Spanish singer-songwriter Joan Manuel Serrat that won the Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Tropical Album. She also appeared in the 2003 documentary "Música Cubana," a project that traced Cuban musicians in the orbit of Buena Vista Social Club and earned her a lasting association with that generation of performers. Now touring intimate stages across Europe and the Caribbean diaspora, she remains a steady presence on the Cuban music circuit more than a quarter-century after her debut.
