# Marcos Fernández Wins Triatlón Costa del Faro Sans Souci in Santo Domingo Ahead of 2026 Central American Games

**Date:** 04/29/2026

Cuban triathlete Marcos Fernández González sent a clear warning to his regional rivals by winning the Triatlón Costa del Faro Sans Souci in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with a time of 1:04.17 hours.

The race, held on April 28, 2026, served as a full dress rehearsal for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, taking place on the exact circuit that will host the triathlon events at the regional competition. The Cuban team is currently on Dominican soil completing its final preparation camp.

The battle for gold came down to a tight finish: Fernández broke away from the home athletes to edge Dominican Alian González by just 17 seconds (1:04.34), while Andrews Montilla finished third in 1:05.35.

The key to the Cuban's victory was his consistency across all three disciplines: a solid swim split of 11:06 minutes, a high-paced cycling leg of 31:08, and a composed run of 20:11 that carried him to the top of the podium. Fernández maintained outstanding regularity that proved decisive against opponents racing on home soil.

The result caps an exceptional stretch for Fernández, who won the youth title at the 2025 Havana Triathlon and claimed the gold medal in the Sprint Sub-23 category at the World Triathlon Regional Development Cup in Bridgetown, Barbados in February 2026. The young Cuban enters the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games as one of the top favorites for gold in his discipline.
