Veteran Cuban boxer Lázaro Álvarez Estrada (10-0), three-time amateur world champion, takes center stage on April 24, 2026, as he faces Brazilian Jackson Furtado in an international professional boxing event in Santiago de Chile.

The event is part of the activities of the WBA Fedelatin Convention, which turns the Chilean capital into the epicenter of Latin American boxing for the day. Álvarez, born in Pinar del Río and known for his speed, technical mastery, and ring experience, aims to reaffirm his skills in the professional circuit and extend his undefeated professional record.

On the same card, reigning Paris 2024 Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez (6-0) faces Panamanian José Núñez — who arrives with 17 victories — with the WBA Latin American continental title on the line. Rising prospect Yusnier Sorsano (2-0) also features on the bill, contesting the WBA Federlatin belt against Argentine veteran Jonathan Wilson Sánchez.

According to Cuba's official newspaper Granma, Cuban boxers are also scheduled to compete in Palma de Mallorca, Spain on May 1, where double Olympic champion Arlen López, world silver medalist Saidel Horta, and double world bronze medalist Alejandro Claro will headline. All of this international activity is part of Cuba's preparation for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026.

Lázaro Álvarez has been one of the most emblematic figures in Cuban boxing over the past decade: three-time amateur world champion (2011, 2013, 2015), three-time Olympic bronze medalist — London 2012, Rio 2016, and Tokyo 2020 — and multiple Pan American champion. His transition to professional boxing with Cuba's Domadores team keeps him among the most respected names in the sport on the island.
