# Lázaro Álvarez Defends WBA Continental Title with Fourth-Round KO in Santiago, Chile

**Date:** 04/26/2026

Cuban boxer Lázaro Álvarez Estrada (61.3 kg), known as El Príncipe (The Prince), successfully defended his WBA continental lightweight title on April 24, 2026, knocking out Brazilian Jackson Furtado in the fourth round at the KO a las Drogas event in Santiago, Chile.

The victory extends Álvarez's unbeaten professional record to 11-0, reinforcing his standing within Cuba's Domadores professional boxing team. The Pinar del Río native — three-time amateur world champion (2011, 2013, 2015) and three-time Olympic bronze medalist (London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020) — continues to build an impressive professional résumé.

However, the evening was bittersweet for the Cuban delegation. Paris 2024 Olympic champion Erislandy Álvarez (63.5 kg) suffered a shock second-round KO defeat to Panamanian José "El Magnífico" Núñez, losing his WBA continental title and his unbeaten 6-0 professional record in the process.

Rising prospect Yusnier Sorsano also competed on the night, winning his bout in the 69.8 kg division.

The event was held as part of the WBA Fedelatin Convention in the Chilean capital, as part of Cuba's preparation for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026.
