**Date:** 03/21/2022

Germán Muñoz received this Sunday in La Habana the 2021 National Prize for Circus Arts, in recognition of his vocation and talent demonstrated in Cuba and more than 10 countries in Latin America and Europe.

A descendant of one of the most celebrated surnames in the history of that specialty on the island, Muñoz is very grateful to his origins, linked to great equilibrists of the caliber of his father Roberto and his uncle Esteban Muñoz, according to the press release issued by the Circo Nacional de Cuba.

In 1996 he founded the prestigious Compañía Havana, whose innovative style has been valued by specialized critics, and is defended by more than 200 artists who fill circuses, auditoriums and even the Sala Paulo VI in the Vatican in the presence of His Holiness, Pope Francis.

Considered a legend of contemporary Cuban circus, the Cuban artist shared unforgettable moments in his career alongside figures of universal art, including singers Liza Minelli and Tina Turner, as well as with Princess Estefanía of Monaco, a principality in which he performed triumphantly.

Among his multiple recognitions, he possesses the distinctions For National Culture, Raúl Gómez García and the Turán prize for lifetime achievement, which are conferred by the Ministry of Culture, the Union of Culture Workers and the Association of Performing Artists of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Centro Cultural Carpa Trompoloco.
