**Date:** 01/24/2022

The Cuban national team striker, Onel Hernández, scored his first goal with Birmingham FC of the Football League Championship, England's second division.

The goal by the Avilés native opened the scoring for The Blues in the 34th minute of the match with a cross shot, following a run down the left wing and with an assist from Polish-British striker Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Birmingham added another goal when Irishman Scott Hogan finished a loose ball in the area of modest Barnsley, the competition's bottom team, following a corner kick.

The reds pulled one back in the 87th minute through Victor Adeboyejo, but it was not enough to prevent victory for the Cuban's new club, which now has 31 points in 18th place in the table with 28 goals for and 40 against.

Hernández completed a notable match, playing 84 minutes in which he received three fouls, completed 79 percent of attempted passes, and was very active in defense.

Birmingham's next match will be on Tuesday, January 25 against Peterborough United, occupant of positions in the standings of England's second most important league.
