# Cuban Footballer Arichel Hernández is Signed by Guatemala Club

**Date:** 11/26/2022

Villa Clara native footballer Arichel Hernández, captain of the Cuban national team, left the Dominican Republic league to try out in Guatemalan football after signing with club Deportivo Mixco.

"We welcome the new Cuban chicharronero Arichel Hernández. We already wish him the best at the club," reads the official Facebook post of the Guatemalan club.

Cuban sports reporter Andy Lans noted that Hernández's contract is for six months to play the Clausura 2023 and added that Dominican Republic teams "showed interest in the former captain of Universidad O&M, but the Cuban international chose to go to Central America".

Following his signing, some club followers applauded the decision while others showed doubt by not knowing the Cuban's track record.

"How good, good player", "Making signings with one matchday left", "No wonder the Mayor changed the cards, since he had nowhere else to get money from, he started doing other things and Mixco only gets shoddy work", were some of the comments in this regard.

Hernández is an offensive midfielder born in Zulueta, "the cradle of Cuban football", and current captain of Cuban football. In 33 international matches with the national team he has accumulated six goals, according to data from the Transfermarkt website.

In this season's CONCACAF League he has four goals in four matches. In June of this year, a hat trick from "10" Hernández kept Cuba in first place in their group in the Concacaf Nations League. The Cubans defeated Antigua and Barbuda 3-1 on the field of Santiago de Cuba and Arichel's performance was decisive in that victory.

The footballer made his debut for the national team in 2012 and seven years later signed with his first international club, Dominican Universidad O&M, where, between the Liguilla and National League, he scored nine goals in 24 matches.

Deportivo Mixco, also known as "los Chicharroneros", is a Guatemalan football club from the City of Mixco, in Guatemala founded in 1964. The club was champion of the Clausura Tournament in 2019 and runner-up of the Apertura Tournament in 2021 and the Clausura Tournament in 2022.
