# The prominent Cuban microbiologist Alina Llop Hernández passed away

The Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine reports the death, on September 29, 2021, of the teacher of teachers Dr. Alina Llop Hernández.

A prominent figure in Cuban medicine and Microbiology. Academic of Merit, Full Academic Member and Consulting Professor. Doctor of Medicine and Specialist of 2nd degree in Microbiology and Health Administration; Full Professor in Microbiology and Medical Ethics at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Havana.

She was born on December 26, 1936 in Havana, Cuba. She held various responsibilities within MINSAP, in the ACC and in the International Health Organization. She participated as author and co-author in multiple relevant national results of MINSAP and achievements of the ACC.

She was an undergraduate and postgraduate professor and visiting professor at the Universities of Quito and Bolivia. She was advisor to countless theses and Member of Examination Boards for Specialists and Doctorates. Author and co-author of books, technical reports and carried out several scientific publications in Cuba and other countries. Subdirector of Microbiology of the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine IPK for many years, she contributed to the training of several generations of professionals in this field.
