# Jorge Oliver, the Father of Captain Plin, Has Passed Away

**Date:** 09/19/2023

The journalist, writer, cartoonist, graphic designer, animation film director and children's literature illustrator Jorge Oliver Medina, remembered especially for being the creator of the adventures of Captain Plin, passed away this Monday in Havana.

The ICAIC Animation Studios announced the news through their social networks, which will be felt deeply by a generation of Cubans who grew up reading him or watching him on Cuban TV, where he was in charge of the film program Frame by Frame, dedicated to films based on comic book characters.

Born on December 15, 1947, he began working at Pionero magazine in 1970 and later moved to other media such as Zunzún, El Caimán Barbudo and Juventud Rebelde.

He directed several television programs and was an illustrator of various children's books, including the volumes featuring Chamaquili, an original character by Alexis Díaz-Pimienta.

"The Father of Captain Plin and Rui la Pestex will no longer be with us… We will no longer hear his laughter, his stories and his curse words, we will no longer enjoy his drawings on any piece of paper. Now our meetings will become more tedious… The man, the brother, the friend, the tireless worker has left us, without a doubt his most accurate definition. However, his work remains and that counts," published the ICAIC team on the social network.

"Rest well, old man, wherever you go, keep dreaming and creating! From here we will always thank you for your stories, your dedication and commitment," concluded the statement.
