# Prominent Cuban journalist and essayist Nicanor León Cotayo passed away

The prominent Cuban journalist and essayist Nicanor León Cotayo passed away last Friday in La Habana, at the age of 83, after a long and painful illness.

A native of La Habana and a graduate in Journalism, Nicanor left behind an extensive body of journalistic work in the newspaper Granma and the Prensa Latina agency, places where he worked, as well as in his contributions to Juventud Rebelde, Trabajadores, Bohemia, Cuban radio and television.

A commentator on international affairs and researcher of the topic of the U.S. blockade against Cuba, his essay work included the books "El bloqueo a Cuba," "Crimen en Barbados," "Caen los velos," and "2008: Bush (W.)," among others.

His retirement more than a decade ago did not mean the end of his professional work. His name continued to appear regularly in the digital publication Cuba Sí and the radio station Radio Reloj.

In recognition of his outstanding trajectory, he received numerous awards and honors. In the coming days, the corresponding tributes will be paid to him, reported the digital site Cubaperiodistas.
